Self-guided Paths and Trails

If you wish to cancel your booking

All cancellations must be in writing and are effective from the date received in this office. For a cancellation received more than 56 days before a tour commences the deposit will be forfeit, whilst any other payment towards the cost of the tour will be refunded. For later cancellations the deposit will be forfeit, but any other payment towards the cost of the tour will be refunded less the following charges:

  • 56 - 43 days before the start - 25% of the tour cost
  • 42 - 29 days before the start - 50% of the tour cost
  • 28 - 15 days before the start - 75% of the tour cost

No refund can be given for a cancellation 14 or less days before the start of a tour, or whilst a tour is in progress.

These cancellation fees are implemented in all cases, so we recommend that you are fully covered by a comprehensive travel insurance policy; this will save you the embarrassment of asking us to waive cancellation fees and Footpath Holidays the embarrassment of having to say “no”.

Please see our Travel & Holiday Insurance Information page for details of the type of policy which would be suitable.

The guest making the booking (the first named guest on the booking form) accepts these booking terms and conditions on behalf of all guests named on the booking form.

If you wish to amend your holiday arrangements

If you wish to make an amendment prior to the due date for final payment (eight weeks ahead of the start date of your holiday) we will do our best to help. If the nature of the amendment is such that additional costs are incurred (loss on accommodation deposits, increased transport/luggage transfer costs, for example) these will be passed on in full, but we will discuss them with you before making any irrevocable change.

If you make an amendment after the due date for final payment we may, depending upon the nature and extent of the changes, have to treat the change as a cancellation of the original holiday and apply cancellation fees as set out above.

All requests for amendment to holiday arrangements must be made in writing, by the guest who made the original booking, and will be subject to an administration fee of £75.

If we are obliged to amend your holiday arrangements, or cancel your booking

Footpath Holidays reserves the right to make changes to holiday arrangements, or cancel your holiday, due to unforeseen circumstances. Such circumstances might, for example, include the closure of one of the the inns, hotels or guesthouses where you are expecting to be accommodated. Fortunately such events are few and far between, and generally easily overcome.

In the event that such changes are necessary we will inform you as soon as possible. If the original booking was made online any communication will be sent to the E.Mail address from which the booking was originally made, unless you have advised us of a change of E.Mail address, in which case the most recent E.Mail address will be used. If the original booking made using a hardcopy booking form any communication will be sent to your postal address.

If the change is limited, for example one of your night's accommodation having to be moved to an alternative provider of a similar standard and in a nearby location, we may make the change and advise you retrospectively.

If the change affects your holiday in a more significant way we will advise you of the nature of the change and discuss your options, including any cost implications. In the normal course of events your options will be:

  • to accept the proposed changes
  • to transfer to an alternative holiday. This option may involve a financial adjustment to reflect the relative costs of the original and replacement holidays.
  • to accept/request the cancellation of the holiday and receive a full refund of all payments received in respect of the holiday.

The above-mentioned options may not be available to you if the cancellation/amendment arises as a result of Force Majeure.

Footpath Holidays will not be responsible for any expenses or losses resulting from any such amendment or cancellation.

Force Majeure: We regret that Footpath Holidays cannot accept any liability, pay any compensation or offer the choices detailed above where the cancellation or amendment arises as a result of force majeure. Likewise, any failure to deliver the services agreed at the time of booking.

Force majeure includes any event which we, or our suppliers, could not, even with all due care, foresee or avoid. Such events include (but are not limited to) war (or the threat of war), terrorism, civil unrest, industrial disputes, fire, adverse weather conditions, natural or man-made disasters, and all such events outside our control.

"Your descriptions were very clear and easy to follow. In combination with the map we had no problems at all. As I said, we had a great holiday. Thank you! When we plan to walk in Britain again we hope to do business with you again."
